Importance of timely BLk certification
A valid BLk certificate is crucial for transporting BLk-certified piglets to BLk pig farmers and for delivering BLk pigs for slaughter.
1. Schedule the annual BLk inspection in good time
Schedule the BLk inspection 6-12 weeks before the current certificate expires. This will allow sufficient time to rectify any shortcomings.
Please note: automatic renewal for 3 months has not been permitted within BLK for some time.
The SBLK certification regulations state that the CI is obliged to schedule the inspection in good time (4-12 weeks before the expiry of the current certificate) and that a new certificate will be issued with an issue date that matches the expiry date of the previous certificate.
2. Read the CI's assessment letter carefully
Check the assessment letter to see which shortcomings have been identified. Take a good look at how these shortcomings should be resolved (according to the sanctions framework in the SBLK Certification Regulations).
- AH = Administrative Remediation
- HI = Inspection Remediation
- Suspension = demonstrate remediation within 3 months by means of an HI; in the meantime, no delivery under Beter Leven
- Exclusion = exclusion from Beter Leven for at least 1 year.
Do you need help assessing the letter? Feel free to contact one of the Livestock coordinators.
3. Schedule any recovery checks in good time.
A recovery check must be carried out within 6 weeks.
If this does not happen, after 1 reminder, automatic suspension will follow → immediate loss of valid certificate → no BLk delivery possible.
Please note: the deadline for the HI is stated in the assessment letter. This is based on the 6-week period. If the certificate expires earlier, the follow-up inspection must take place before that date to avoid a period without BLk certification.
4. Please note when registering animals
Do not register pigs with the BSMP planning department or with the trader if the company does not have a valid BLk certificate.
The validity of the companies' certificates can also be checked on the website of the Animal Protection Agency.
In order to process and guarantee the planning of the pigs correctly, we must receive at least the following information:
- UBN
- Number of animals to be delivered
- Day of delivery
This information is essential for correct processing and guaranteeing within our chain. Without this information, we cannot verify the BLk status, which means that we can no longer accept deliveries without this information!
If this is not complied with, we reserve the right to suspend the agreement for the UBN in question.
The sale of meat to our customers can only be guaranteed if everyone in the chain takes responsibility. So always keep your certification and planning in order! Together we can ensure a strong, reliable and well-secured chain!
