What is Organic Beef?

Organic beef guarantees that the animals are reared with respect for nature, animals and people, in accordance with strict European regulations that apply to every stage of the supply chain. This way, you can be sure that ‘organic’ really is organic.

The Van Loon Group works with EKO Holland for its organic cattle. The animals are reared in accordance with these strict guidelines and are independently inspected by Skal Biocontrole.

In this way, we supply organic beef that is sustainable, transparent and responsibly produced.

Organic Beef Objective

The aim of our Organic Beef programme is to supply top-quality beef from a supply chain that works in harmony with nature as much as possible. We achieve this through an integrated approach in which all stages of the supply chain are coordinated and independently monitored. This ensures that ‘organic’ really is organic. The programme is built around four key pillars: (1) Integrated supply chain collaboration and transparency, (2) Animal welfare and natural behaviour, (3) Environment and biodiversity, and (4) Pure meat quality.

Pillar 1: Comprehensive supply chain collaboration and transparency

Van Loon Group believes that true sustainability begins with transparency throughout the entire supply chain. For our organic cattle, we work exclusively with EKO Holland Vee & Vlees.

  • Strict European regulations: Every link in the chain, from farm to fork, operates in accordance with European standards for organic farming.
  • Independent inspection: The supply chain is independently inspected by Skal Biocontrole, so you can be confident of the origin of the produce.
  • Fair revenue model: Together with EKO Holland, we ensure a fair distribution of revenues, so that organic farmers can earn a decent income.
  • Sustainability: Our organic beef supply chain is focused on long-term sustainability. Through collaboration within the supply chain, we promote responsible entrepreneurship, natural cycles and respect for animals, people and the environment.

Pillar 2: Animal welfare and natural behaviour

Respect for the animal is central to the organic approach. Cattle are given the space to express their natural behaviour. During the warmer months, they spend a lot of time outdoors in the pasture, and in winter they are housed in spacious, comfortable barns. Veterinary care focuses primarily on prevention and on strengthening the animals’ natural defences. In this way, we keep the animals healthy and ensure a high standard of welfare.

Pillar 3: Environment & Biodiversity

Our organic supply chain is actively committed to protecting nature and the climate. In organic livestock farming, we work with nature as much as possible, rather than against it. The animal feed is grown entirely organically, without the use of pesticides or artificial fertilisers. This ensures healthier soil and cleaner groundwater. At the same time, this approach helps to increase biodiversity in and around the pastures.

Pillar 4: Pure meat quality

By focusing on strong, healthy cattle that grow at their own pace, a better end product naturally follows. The combination of a natural and organic diet, plenty of outdoor space to roam and a life with as little stress as possible ensures consistently high quality. This is reflected in the meat: tender beef with a pure, authentic flavour for our customers and consumers.
